Frequently Asked Questions
What is “VWAP?”
“VWAP” stands for Vacation with a Purpose.
How many weeks can I sign up for?
As many as you like! We have three weeks of programming, and volunteers can attend for any week or combination of weeks. The three weeks are July 11-17, 18-24, and 25-31. Click here to sign up for a full week, including room and board and all programming.
I live locally and want to attend the full week, but reside at home. Can I?

I live locally and just want to volunteer but not attend sessions or meals. Can I?
You can! Please visit our online registration system for local residents/commuters or call 1-888-CSLEWIS to sign up.
I live locally and will be volunteering. Can I sign up by showing up the day of the event rather than signing up ahead of time.
You can, but we ask that you give us advanced notice so that we are prepared with equipment and supplies for the day(s) you will be there. Also, if you plan on purchasing a meal, we will need to know so that we have adequate meals available! Please visit our online registration system for local residents/commuters or call 1-888-CSLEWIS to sign up.
Can we come if we have children under the age of 18? Is childcare provided?
Unfortunately, due to reasons of state law and insurance requirements, we are unable to allow minors under the age of 18 to participate in the volunteer program or lodge on the campus.
Do you offer transportation from the airport / train station?
We are now able to offer limited transportation from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, CT or from Brattleboro Train Station in Brattleboro, VT to the campus. Please email info@cslewis.org for more information.
What are the physical requirements of participating?
All participants need to be in reasonably good physical shape. The campus is large and can only be accessed on foot. Approximately 6 hours a day will be spent in service, which could be any number of things: cleaning, painting, gardening, etc.
Where will we stay?
Accommodations will be in one of our on-campus dorms. Each room is furnished with two chairs, two twin beds, two dressers, and two desks. All rooms are double occupancy. We do have a limited number of suites available that we will reserve for families.
Do we have to bring our own bedding?
No, every bed is provided with sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket, and several towels.
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
No, the buildings at Northfield are not air conditioned. You might wish to purchase a portable fan.
What is the deadline for signing up?
We will be accepting Full Week sign ups through July 7th. All costs will be due by that day.
Other sign ups that do not involve room and board - daily registrants, session registrants, volunteers - can sign up onsite. However, if it is possible, we ask that you inform us by email or phone call prior to coming so that we can plan accordingly.
What is covered by the weekly sign up cost?
The $375 weekly cost covers the cost of housing, food, and programming.
