An Evening With C.S. Lewis

Philip-Crowley-as-LewisThe year is 1963 and CS Lewis, the famous British author, is hosting a group of American writers at his home near Oxford. They are about to experience a captivating evening with a man whose engaging conversation and spontaneous humor made him one of the great raconteurs of his day.

Seated in his living room and in front of a warm fire he recalls the people and events that inspired his thought and shaped his life; of his friendship with J R R Tolkien; why he nearly abandoned the Narnia Chronicles; how he came to embrace Christianity and of the American woman who turned his life upside down.

Described by critics as “Extraordinary!” “A Must See!” An Evening with CS Lewis has proved again and again to be an enthralling theatrical experience and one which has led many thousands to discover (or rediscover) the continuing impact of a man who died over 50 years ago and whose collected works made him one of the literary giants of the 20th Century.

About the Artist

Since his college years when he read The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity, Phil Crowley’s appreciation for C.S. Lewis, his life and his life’s work, has continued to grow. Phil has traveled to many of the locales where Lewis lived and lectured, and to where the author enjoyed deep friendships and spirited debate with literary colleagues including J.R.R. Tolkien.

Today, Phil Crowley is a much sought-after voice actor and may be heard on commercials and documentary narrations. Most prominently, he is the announcer on ABC’s weekly hit entrepreneurial series, Shark Tank, produced by Mark Burnett.

On stage Phil has starred in such wide-ranging dramatic works as The Philadelphia Story, A Christmas Carol, Days of Wine and Roses, Teahouse of the August Moon, and The Miracle Worker. He performed the role of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha and most recently portrayed Nat Miller, the pivotal father character in Ah, Wilderness! by Eugene O’Neill.

In addition to the depth of his acting gifts, Phil is an accomplished musician – a singer, instrumentalist, composer and orchestral conductor. He is married to Ann, another fan of Lewis and student of his writings. The Crowleys make their home in La Cañada, California.
