Belmont University occupies 62 historic acres south of downtown Nashville. In the mid-1800s, it was known as Belle Monte, the Victorian home of Joseph and Adelicia Acklen, until later becoming Belmont College in 1890. Belmont University is a mix of old and new. Mansions, gardens and statues of its antebellum past now sit side-by-side with state-of-the-art instructional facilities. The college's mission is "to provide an academically challenging education that enables men and women of diverse backgrounds to engage and transform the world with disciplined intelligence, compassion, courage, and faith."
