Speakers and Performers

Speakers:

Jerry RootJerry Root will be the featured speaker for the weekend. Assistant Professor of Christian Formation and Ministry at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, Jerry is the co-editor, with Wayne Martindale, of "The Quotable C. S. Lewis" and has contributed scholarly articles on C. S. Lewis in a variety of publications as well as paper presentations before scholarly societies. He has been reading Lewis for 32 years, teaching college and graduate courses on Lewis for 22 years, and has lectured on Lewis in many countries and on three continents. Jerry is the former Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Santa Barbara, CA as well as a former College and Youth Pastor.
David Taylor, Arts Pastor of Hope Chapel in Austin, will speak Saturday on the role of the arts in Christian community and how the creative process speaks to our life in Christ. David has been a leader in drawing together and encouraging Christian artists in the Austin area, and his talk promises to be thought provoking and to lead to a greater appreciation of artistic creativity and enjoyment as an expression of being made in the image of God.
Bill FreyRt. Rev. William Frey, retired Episcopal Bishop of Colorado, will lead us in a meditation on Saturday morning and conduct the worship service on Sunday morning. He is well known in our area as a leader of the renewal movement in the Episcopal Church and for his winsome teaching of solid Biblical truth

Performers:

Sandra OrganSandra Organ, liturgical dance

Artistic Director of Sandra Organ Dance Company, was Houston Ballet's first African American ballerina and a soloist for twelve seasons. She has danced in theaters all over the world, and has performed the ballets of world famous choreographers such as Ben Stevenson, Christopher Bruce, Paul Taylor, James Kudelka among a host of others, having created many diverse roles in the repertoire of Houston Ballet in her fifteen years with them.

Ms. Organ was born in Omaha Nebraska, of two native Texans, into a family of doctors. Her respected position in the dance community has helped draw attention to Houston's contemporary dance scene, cultivating an appreciation for dance as creative expression.

Tony LawtonTony Lawton

Tony Lawton, professional actor from Philadelphia, will be performing his riveting one-man performance of Lewis’ famous work, The Great Divorce. He is founder of The Mirror Theatre Company, the mission statement of which is: "Spiritual theatre for a secular audience." Tony taught acting and directing for two years at the University of Notre Dame.
