For those of you who are writers out there, here’s a testimony from Austin Smith, one of our friends from least year’s Writers Workshop.

Howdy, my name is Austin Smith. I went to the 2010 Writing Workshop at Camp Allen. This workshop really helped me to focus on Christ. Not only in my writing, but also in my everyday walk with him as well.

Because of this workshop, I was able to see people who are in the same place as me, and also those who have already walked this section of their lives, which helped to encourage me.

Before going to the Workshop, I was having a hard time staying motivated in my writing, I had all but stopped working towards my goal of having a completed novel. However, this Workshop gave me a renewed vision for Christ and new ways to add him into my writings and bring more honor to him.

One of the major ways this was done, was through Randy Alcorn. Being able to sit and talk with him, and learn about the struggles that he faces with giving God his time, treasure, and talents was greatly helpful. Also, hearing his knowledge of the Bible and how much he has taken the words of it to heart inspired me to do the same with my own time, treasure, and talents that God has gifted me with.

Also, being able to come together with other people who have a joy for writing was another inspiration for me. Being able to talk with other writers who had a love for Christ and a love to use their writing to bring him glory helped to show me I was not alone. I went away from the Workshop with new friends who will be an encouragement to me, and who I can encourage as well. I would not have had this new source of encouragement aside from this Workshop.

In all, this Workshop was the most instrumental thing to get me back on track with my writing and my relationship with Christ. Seeing the struggles of Randy in both areas, showed me that even those who have established themselves as an author face the same problems that I am facing. This Workshop gave me a glimpse inside the world that I was sitting on the outside of before. It has welcomed me to struggle along side all types of writers, and be welcomed in with them. I thank God for that wonderful opportunity, and plan on coming back again next year.
