\u201cStewarding the Self: A Human Future for Humans”<\/p>\n
The 21st century will bring into sharp\u00a0focus the dilemmas raised by\u00a0our dominion over the natural order when it includes ourselves.\u00a0The barbaric\u00a0eugenics that characterized\u00a0the first part of the 20th century, and the furor over experimental laboratory manufacture and use of embryonic members\u00a0of our species that has bridged into the 21st, set the pace for a\u00a0future that seems certain to hold\u00a0more subtle but perhaps more consequential challenges. A “kinder,\u00a0gentler” eugenics is in the works; transhumanists press the case for the redesign of the species; and a planet increasingly concerned with the preservation of “nature” seems\u00a0less interested in\u00a0a future for human nature as we know it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
