Sheila Swartz, our alumna at this year\u2019s Southwest Regional Retreat and Writers Workshop<\/a>, has sent us a poem inspired by Malcolm Guite’s last talk at Camp Allen:<\/p>\n

“Dawnward Orientation: Ode to Camp Allen 2010” <\/strong><\/p>\n

A secret inconsolable
\nA joy as yet untold
\nA world so small (but precious)
\nThat Julian could hold<\/p>\n

A truth – not always comforting
\nSufficient nonetheless
\nGod’s megaphone of pain hath wrought
\nThe gladness of the best<\/p>\n

“What fools these lowly mortals be!”
\nOppressed by fleshly debt
\nLowly? Foolish? Yes, but no
\nMere mortals have we met<\/p>\n

With weak desires for the least
\nWe clamour “Westward, ho!”
\nUntil we hear Christ’s greater yes
\n<\/em>When we deserve a no<\/em><\/p>\n

Awaiting transformation
\nAt the wardrobe (Heaven’s gate)
\nWe travel as a pilgrim crushed
\n\u2018Neath Glory’s welcome Weight<\/p>\n

Farewell to all the shadows
\nThat danced in Plato’s cave
\nFarewell to Shadowlands! We dance
\nOn Aslan’s empty grave<\/p>\n

Annihilated pain
\nAll fear and doubt are gone
\nUnhindered, incorruptible
