Lewis Celebration is still going strong, around the world and also at the C.S. Lewis Foundation. \u00a0For our own part, we recently concluded our C.S. Lewis Summer Conference in San Diego, which we were very proud of. \u00a0Our next conference will be this fall in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cslewis.org\/programs\/50thcelebration\/fall-conference-houston\/\">Houston<\/a>, and then remember to save the date for the Summer Institute at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cslewis.org\/programs\/50thcelebration\/oxbridge2014\/\">Oxbridge<\/a>, which will follow on July 21-31, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from these events, preparations are still being undertaken for Lewis&#8217;s placement into Poet&#8217;s Corner at Westminster Abbey. \u00a0Dr. Michael Ward, the organizer for this C.S. Lewis Memorial, was recently interviewed by Lancia Smith about the project and also about Lewis&#8217;s legacy in both Britain and America. \u00a0You can find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanciaesmith.com\/2013\/07\/michael-ward-interview-on-the-c-s-lewis-memorial-in-poets-corner-part-1\/\">Part 1 of the interview by clicking here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanciaesmith.com\/2013\/07\/michael-ward-interview-on-the-c-s-lewis-memorial-in-poets-corner-part-2\/\">Part 2 here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Concerning the longevity of Lewis&#8217;s legacy, an article was just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christiancentury.org\/article\/2013-06\/our-augustine\">published in <em>The Christian Century<\/em><\/a>, contending that C.S. Lewis is &#8220;Our Augustine.&#8221; \u00a0A subscription is required to read the full article, but its assessment of Lewis is unique and compelling.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar vein, the <em>New York Times<\/em> recently ran an article entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/26\/opinion\/luhrmann-c-s-lewis-evangelical-rock-star.html\">&#8220;C.S. Lewis, Evangelical Rock Star,<\/a>&#8221; investigating Lewis&#8217;s cultural longevity, especially with evangelical Christianity in the United States. \u00a0The top comment on the article was, coincidentally, left by Dr. Greg Cootsona, a pastor in Chico, California, who is authoring an upcoming biography of C.S. Lewis. \u00a0Cootsona argues that Lewis is often incorrectly associated only with American Evangelicalism, rather than <em>&#8220;<\/em>mere Christianity,&#8221; which is the concept Lewis was more devoted to. \u00a0Cootsona blogs about this (and C.S. Lewis in general) regularly\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cootsona.blogspot.com\/2013\/06\/st-clive-in-my-crisis.html\">on his website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, former C.S. Lewis Foundation intern Brett McCracken&#8217;s new book, <em>Gray Matters<\/em>, will soon be released. \u00a0McCracken&#8217;s new book, following his popular debut <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hipster-Christianity-When-Church-Collide\/dp\/0801072220\/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1\">Hipster Christianity<\/a>,<\/em> is an assessment of Christianity and its intersection with contemporary culture, specifically in the matters of food, music, movies, and drinking alcohol. \u00a0The book will be released on August 1, but you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Gray-Matters-Brett-McCracken\/dp\/0801014743\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1373497522&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=gray+matters\">read about it and pre-order it from amazon now<\/a>.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 50th anniversary of the C.S.
