Institute Chorale

 

Directed by John Dickson, Summer Institute Chorale Director

Members of the Oxbridge 2008 Chorale, in addition to participating in all conference activities, will appear in joint concert with the City of Oxford Orchestra and participate as the Institute Choir in worship services at Oxford’s University Church of St. Mary, at Ely Cathedral, and at Great St. Mary’s Church in Cambridge.

John Dickson Summer Institute Choral Director; Dean of the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University, Macon, GA, as well as Professor of Conducting. He conducts the Masterworks Chorus of Mercer, and is the founder and conductor of Coro Vocati, a new professional chamber choir based in the Atlanta area. Prior to his Mercer appointment he was the Director of Choral Studies and Chair of the Conducting Division at Texas Tech University.

He was founder and Artistic Director for the Cambridge University, St. John’s College/ Texas Tech University Summer Choral Institute, and also the Founding Director of the C. S. Lewis Foundation’s Oxbridge Choral Institute in 2005. An internationally recognized conducting pedagogue through his writings and workshops, he has conducted master classes throughout Europe as well as North America.

Also a strong advocate for church music, Dickson served as an active church musician and educator for more than thirty years, fifteen of which were as the Director of Choral Studies at the former graduate school of church music at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY.
