Oxbridge 2011 Academic Roundtable

The Oxbridge Academic Roundtable will be a small community of interdisciplinary scholarly engagement and discussion within the broader context of the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute, Oxbridge 2011—Paradigms of Hope: Transcending Chaos and Transforming Culture

The Roundtable will consist of twelve selected scholars from various fields, and may be expanded to a second section if the maximum of twelve participants is exceeded.

Each member will be scheduled to read his or her paper to the Roundtable for discussion and feedback during one of the four Roundtable sessions.  Three papers will be read per session.  All papers by Roundtable members shall be of such a length as to be read within a 20-minute time frame.  All papers shall be scholarly in nature, with the author’s unique thesis clearly set within the context of existing scholarship on the subject matter.

In addition to members’ papers, each session of the Roundtable will feature a brief presentation, with Q & A discussion, by a different Oxbridge 2011 plenary speaker or other significant member of the program.

Each member of the Roundtable will be expected to commit fully to membership in the Roundtable, attending all sessions and participating in the discussion and feedback on the papers of all the other members of the Roundtable.  It is expected that participation in this small, focused, interdisciplinary community will yield a rewarding and genuinely collegial experience.

Call for Papers

Academics are invited to apply for participation in the Academic Roundtable, a program element of the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute at Oxbridge.  The Summer Institute, convening in the cities and Universities of Oxford (July 26-30) and Cambridge (July 30-Aug 3), is an interdisciplinary conference that serves as a focal point of the C. S. Lewis Foundation’s mission to advance a renaissance of Christian scholarship and artistic expression among faculty.

All paper proposals submitted for selection must engage the theme of the 2011 Summer Institute, but may do so from any disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspective.  Papers coming from the domain of Lewis or “Inklings” studies are welcome.  Papers reflective of the tradition of Christian engagement of the culture or the academy will be especially welcome.

Note: Faculty whose paper proposals are accepted will be expected to attend all nine days of the Summer Institute and participate in all scheduled sessions of the Academic Roundtable.

Paper presentations must not exceed 20 minutes.  Please submit by email, with attached MS Word documents, the following:

  • A 300 word abstract detailing the paper, clearly describing the paper’s relationship to the Summer Institute theme
  • A 2-page CV including complete contact information.

Acknowledgement will be made by email.

Deadline for proposal submission: February 15, 2011
